Q: How do I solve picky eating with my child?

A: You may have noticed your toddler or older child start to say “no” to foods they use to eat. It can feel so defeating!

Picky eating is common, particularly for toddlers and preschoolers. Feeding toddlers and kids is hard. You haven’t failed as a parent just because you have a picky toddler or child. The following are some tips you can try to improve mealtimes:

  1. Start “no pressure meals.”
  2. Say, “You can eat it when you are ready.”
  3. Have open and closed hours for the kitchen.
  4. Sit down to eat.
  5. Grown-ups set the menu.
  6. Add some fun with food activities.
  7. Keep serving it.
  8. Teach kids what foods do in their bodies.
  9. Make dessert less exciting.
  10. Model the behavior you want to see.
